Weather Update

Greetings, folks! Strap yourselves in as this weather ride is about to get bumpy!

First up, we’ve got a STRONG WIND WARNING for you adventurous souls residing in the Northern Division, the northeastern corners of Viti Levu (from Tailevu North through Ra-Rakiraki and up to Tavua), as well as the Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. Grab your hats before they fly off—these winds might just have a mind of their own!

Heavy rain? Oh, we’ve got that too! A rain alert is still very much in effect for the Northern Division and the Yasawa group—so say goodbye to your dry socks! And don’t forget the FLASH FLOOD ALERT for those tiny streams and low-lying flood-prone areas in the western half of Viti Levu, where Nadi through Sabeto, Vuda, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki are all set for some unexpected swimming. Parts of Vanua Levu also join the splash zone party from Dama through Bua, Lekutu, and all the way to Labasa.

Now let’s dive into today’s winds. A friendly southeast breeze is currently wrapping us in its warm embrace, but hold onto your slippers, as a low-pressure system sneaks up from the northwest and dazzles its way towards us this weekend. It’s like that friend who shows up uninvited but brings snacks—active troughs and strong winds are expected, so keep your expectations low and your raincoats closer!

Tonight’s forecast for the Northern Division, northern parts of Viti Levu, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lau, and Lomaiviti reminds us to consider securing loose furniture because we can expect winds gusting up to 65 km/hr—your umbrellas may not survive! Rough seas will also be strutting their stuff, making it a no-go for your boat trips.

The rain gods will likely grace us with occasional to persistent rain from tomorrow in the Northern Division and Yasawa group. So if you’ve ever wanted to channel your inner duck, now’s your moment. The forecast for cloudy areas such as Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva, Nausori, and others offers a mix of showers and a possible thunderstorm—a perfect recipe for a cozy indoor day!

Sunday is gearing up with a bang as well, especially for the Northern Division and friends: pack those khakis because strong to near gale southeast to north winds with delightful gusts of up to 75 km/hr are coming to town. So, don’t be surprised if you suddenly feel like you’re auditioning for a weather-related action movie!

As for those coastal Villages, expect your fair share of strong winds in the likes of Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba issues with all the dramatic thunderstorm flair added for good measure. It’s looking like quite the show with heavy rain and thunderstorms looming—definitely sounds like an excuse to stay in and catch up on that series!

Rotuma, your weather is just as exciting with strong winds and heavy rain, ideal for an impromptu dance-off indoors!

So stay safe, enjoy the spectacle of nature, and remember, every raindrop is just the weather’s way of giving you a free shower!
