Weather Update – Because Who Doesn’t Love a Good Rainstorm?

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 11:06 am on Monday, March 10, 2025

Situation: So, it appears that an overzealous trough of low pressure has set up camp just northeast of us. It’s feeling a bit too cozy, and guess what? It’s planning to shower its affection on the northern and eastern parts of the country over the next few days!

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the glorious Fiji group: Expect some enthusiastic showers and the occasional dramatic thunderstorm over the Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups.

We’re looking at cloudy periods with showers making grand entrances over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Yasawa, Kadavu, and those charming smaller islands nearby. But don’t fret—most other spots will look fine, with just a sprinkle of isolated afternoon or evening showers.

Hold onto your umbrellas because we might see afternoon or evening thunderstorms throwing a bit of a tantrum, particularly over the northern and eastern areas of Viti Levu. And while we’re on the topic of tantrums, localized heavy falls could potentially lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas—so, maybe keep your floaties handy!

Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds are on the roster, and seas are set to be moderate to rough, giving you a jolly good reason to do the mummy’s “ahhh” when you’re out on the water.

Wednesday’s outlook: More of the same! Occasional showers, isolated thunderstorms strutting their stuff over the Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. Cloudy skies with showers are also a safe bet for Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Yasawa, Kadavu, and their smaller friends. If you’re elsewhere, chill out because it’ll mostly remain fine, with only the odd afternoon or evening shower crashing the party.

Now, let’s break it down for the hotspots:

For Navua/Suva/Nausori: A little cloudy now and then, with showers, plus your friendly neighborhood thunderstorms expected to bring heavy falls.

For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: It’s all sunshine and rainbows, except during the isolated afternoon or evening showers, which might feel a bit like a surprise party—just with more water.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: All systems go for splendid weather, aside from the occasional uninvited afternoon or evening showers.

For Tavua/Rakiraki: Lovely weather until those afternoon or evening thunderstorms decide to steal the spotlight with heavy falls.

For Yasawa/Mamanuca Group: Expect some showers and the thrilling mystery of isolated thunderstorms—aren’t vacations exciting?

For Labasa & Savusavu: A sprinkle of showers and a dash of thunderstorms are on the menu.

For Lau/Lomaiviti: Showers and isolated thunderstorms may put on a show, too.

For Kadavu: Cloudy times with some showers are predicted.

For Rotuma: The unfortunate lovechild of low pressure is here, promising occasional showers, heavy at times, and a few spontaneous thunderstorms. Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds will be your company, alongside moderate to rough seas.

Outlook for Wednesday? You guessed it: occasional showers and a few thunderstorms continuing to make waves!

So gear up, folks! Whether you’re ready to dance in the rain or just want to stay cozy indoors, there’s plenty in store for everyone!
