Weather Update from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, as of 3:30 PM on April 9, 2025
Alright, folks, grab your umbrellas and maybe a life raft, because the weather forecast is serving up a mixed bag!
For the Fiji group, expect a cloud contest with a chance of showers over Tailevu, Nausori-Suva-Navua, the eastern interior of Viti Levu (yes, we’re looking at you, Naitasiri, Serua-Namosi, and Ra), Rakiraki, Kadavu and their fashionable smaller island friends, plus Cakaudrove and southern Bua provinces, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. Consider yourselves officially gloomy! Elsewhere, it’s mostly fine, except for the odd afternoon or evening shower trying to crash the party.
Feeling adventurous? Isolated thunderstorms are dropping by uninvited, with heavy falls that might just bring a splash of drama—localised heavy rain could lead to some flash flooding in low-lying areas, so keep an eye on your flip-flops.
Winds? Moderate to fresh easterlies are breezing through, and seas are moderately to roughly playing hard to get.
Looking ahead to Friday: it’s more of the same cloudy drama over the interior and coastal areas of Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Vanua Levu, Lau, Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu. Showers will become more of a “when they feel like it” kind of situation later in the day. You guessed it—isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected. You may want to throw in a rain dance or two because localised downpours could lead to flash floods, just to remind you to stay on your toes.
Now, let’s break it down for different areas:
**Navua / Suva / Nausori**: Expect some cloud cover with sporadic showers. Thunderstorms are on the guest list with a chance of heavy falls.
**Sigatoka/Coral Coast**: It’s all fine and dandy, except for those pesky afternoon and evening showers. Thunderstorms might drop by for a visit, too, so keep that umbrella handy.
**Nadi / Lautoka / Ba**: Just like your favorite sitcom—mostly fine, with occasional afternoon or evening showers, and surprise thunderstorms promising heavy falls.
**Tavua/Rakiraki**: Cloudy spells invade Rakiraki, while elsewhere enjoys fine moments, but watch out for those surprise showers and thunderstorms.
**Natadradave/Korovou**: Here comes the cloud cover with showers. You guessed it—thunderstorms might also make an appearance.
**Yasawa/Mamanuca group**: Staying fine, apart from a sprinkle or two in the afternoon or evening.
**Labasa**: All is well until those after-lunch showers roll in—grab your umbrella!
**Savusavu**: Expect cloudy segments with showers, thunderstorms with heavy falls also potentially crashing the scene.
**Lau/ Lomaiviti and Kadavu**: Cloudy periods with some showers, turning occasional later, plus uninvited thunderstorms expected.
**Rotuma**: A troublesome trough of low pressure is floating around, bringing along occasional showers and some guest star thunderstorms. Moderate winds and seas are on the scene.
So, there you have it, Fiji! Don’t forget to keep that umbrella handy, and maybe a good book, because it looks like we’re in for an entertaining weather show!
