Weather Update from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi

Good morning, sunshine enthusiasts! It’s Sunday, March 9th, 2025, and while the sun may still be hiding, don’t worry! Our friendly neighborhood trough of low pressure is taking its sweet time hanging out just to the north of us, which means we can expect a sprinkle of clouds, a dash of showers, and maybe even a thunderstorm or two to spice things up over the next few days. And let’s not forget, the southeasterly winds have decided to join the party!

Forecast for the Fiji group by midnight tomorrow:
Prepare for some occasional showers that will joyfully dance on our rooftops, especially in the Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. And yes, if you’re in those areas, expect showers that might get a bit heavy at times, and don’t be surprised if our weather goes ‘boom’ with a few thunderstorms. But fear not, the showers will start to ease up and turn into what we like to call “mildly inconvenient” showers by tomorrow.

Now, if you reside in Sigatoka, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, Yasawa, Kadavu, and nearby (let’s just say “in the vicinity”), it’ll be cloudy with sporadic showers. A hint of sunshine might appear, but hold on, those sneaky afternoon or evening showers are lurking around. Brace yourself for the potential drama of afternoon or evening thunderstorms with heavy falls, because who doesn’t like a dramatic weather moment?

Keep one eye on those low-lying areas, as localized heavy falls might create a rain puddle Olympics in your neighborhood—just a friendly reminder to stay alert! Conditions are measured to be moderate to fresh with southeasterly winds, and let’s not forget the sea—a bit moderate to rough.

Outlook for Tuesday: The weather seems to have a theme brewing—occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are back in town over the Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti. In other regions, you can expect cloudy periods followed by those cheeky afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms ready to make an entrance. It appears the southeasterly winds will continue to grace us, as seas remain moderate to rough.

For Navua / Suva / Nausori:
Expect cloudy moments accompanied by some showers, with a chance of thunderstorms coming in like an uninvited guest.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba:
Relatively fine weather, except for those occasional afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms that sneak in just when you think you’ll stay dry.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast:
There may be a stuffed animal or two made of clouds; expect a cloudy sky and a few showers. And of course, thunderstorms like to crash the party in the afternoon!

For Tavua/Rakiraki, Yasawa/Mamanuca, and even Labasa & Savusavu:
Expect a mix of fine moments interspersed with some isolated showers or thunderstorms—think of it as the weather version of a surprise piñata!

For Kadavu, we’ll keep it simple: Cloudy periods and some showers will be your companions.

And for Rotuma, just a friendly reminder that the trough is still there, occasionally showering you with… well, showers and a few electrical performances!

That’s the scoop for now! Stay dry, my friends, or at least keep your weather-proof umbrellas at hand; you might just become a local celebrity by dodging raindrops!
