Weather Update

Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 5:30 AM, January 15, 2026

Attention, fellow Fiji inhabitants! Grab your umbrellas and galoshes because we have a heavy rain warning in full effect across the entire Fiji group! Yep, it’s time to embrace your inner water-loving fish—or maybe just your most stylish raincoat.

But wait, there’s more! A flash flood warning is also swimming through, meaning our low-lying areas could quickly become temporary swimming pools, so plan accordingly with a life jacket and your best floaties.

And if you’re near the coastlines of Yasawa and Mamanuca, don’t let the winds take you for a ride! We’re expecting strong winds whipping at 35 to 45 km/hr and gusts reaching an impressive 60 km/hr. It’s the perfect day to see just how securely you’ve secured your beach umbrellas—spoiler alert: probably not securely enough!

Due to this active, moody trough of low pressure and a shallow low-pressure system that has made itself at home, there’s a moist downpour of excitement coming our way. Expect heavy rain showers, squally thunderstorms, and wind that may just blow you back to last weekend.

The forecast for today promises fresh to strong northwest winds as well as rough seas. We’re talking about periodic downpours that might make your Sunday bath seem like a desert oasis! Get ready for occasional heavy rain in areas like Nadi, Lautoka, and even the delightful valleys of Ba and Ra. Thunderstorms will also be making an appearance—think of them as dramatic commentaries on the already potent weather.

As for tomorrow’s outlook, be prepared for more of the same rainy fun! Heavy rain likely spouts up, particularly in areas like Natadradave, Sigatoka, and right through to Taveuni. So, remember: If you’re planning to go outside, just grab the umbrella—and maybe don’t wear white.

Just a heads up for all in Navua, Suva, and Nausori: expect cloudy periods mixed with occasional showers, accompanied by that electrifying afternoon thunderstorm—great for dramatic selfies but maybe not fantastic for your hair.

For our friends in Tavua and Rakiraki, it’s a similar theme: bouts of heavy rain, strong winds that could almost be classified as high-speed tourists, and the exhilarating thrill of thunderstorms throughout the day.

Lastly, for everyone from Savusavu to Rotuma—be prepared for some hearty rain here and there, along with the usual blustery wind. Wind speed: fast enough to give a pigeon a run for its money.

Keep those rain boots handy, and may your day be filled with less splashing and more cozy vibes!
