Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua has assured the citizens of Fiji that the individuals responsible for the tragic death of a young police officer will be apprehended and held fully accountable under the law. This statement comes in the wake of the tragic passing of 25-year-old Constable Peniasi Racagi while he was on duty at the Lami Police Station earlier this week.

During the National Talanoa Session focused on Responding to Illicit Drugs, Naivalurua paid heartfelt tribute to Constable Racagi, leading attendees in a minute of silence to honor his memory. He emphasized the importance of justice, stating that the Fiji Police Force is committed to conducting a comprehensive and professional investigation using all available lawful resources.

The minister highlighted that justice is not only owed to the family of the fallen officer and his colleagues but also to the entire nation of Fiji. He expressed his appreciation for the ongoing efforts of frontline officers from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and various border enforcement agencies, recognizing their critical role in the ongoing battle against illicit drugs.

By framing the officer’s sacrifice as a motivating force, Naivalurua called for a renewed national determination to combat drug cultivation and trafficking, emphasizing that this fight requires a united approach from both the government and local communities. His statements reflect a hopeful outlook, aiming to harness collective responsibility in addressing the challenges posed by illicit drug activities in Fiji.
