Volleyball Fiji representative Sally Aitcheson has highlighted the significant growth of volleyball in the country, noting improvements in participation, competition standards, and tournament organization. Aitcheson commended Fiji Volleyball for its dedication to enhancing the sport, which has been evident over recent years.
She remarked on the advancements in players’ skills, fitness, and the overall management of events, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to play indoors for the entire season. “One of the major improvements we’ve seen is the way the players have grown game wise, fitness wise and the organizing so a big vinaka vakalevu to Fiji Volleyball for allowing us to play indoor throughout this whole season,” Aitcheson said.
The recent Easter Volleyball tournament, which saw 54 teams compete, is a testament to the sport’s popularity in Fiji. This tournament marks the last sanctioned event for Fiji Volleyball before the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Palau, where Aitcheson is one of the 50 women vying for a position on the national squad.
Reflecting on the broader context of volleyball in Fiji, Aitcheson’s observations align with trends noted in previous reports regarding preparations for the Pacific Mini Games. These include player fitness testing and selection processes designed to enhance Fiji’s competitive edge in ongoing and future tournaments.
As volleyball in Fiji continues to expand, the enthusiasm and commitment of players and organizers signal a promising future for the sport on both national and international stages, fostering not just a competitive spirit but also national pride in the country’s athletic capabilities.
