Minister for Policing and Communications Ioane Naivalurua emphasized the strength of unity in Fiji during the launch of Mission Veikauwaitaki in Suva. He expressed that when the elements of Lotu (faith), Vanua (land), and Matanitu (state) unite, Fiji becomes more resilient.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, marks the pre-launch of a three-year national Prayer and Fasting Campaign that aims to address the critical issues of illicit drug use and the increasing prevalence of HIV and AIDS within the community. Minister Naivalurua highlighted that combating these challenges extends beyond law enforcement; it requires collective efforts from the government, churches, families, and communities to safeguard the youth and strengthen familial bonds.

The President of the Methodist Church, Dr. Semisi Turagavou, noted that the campaign will focus on mobilizing prayer, fostering unity, and providing hope and support to individuals affected by these issues. This initiative is especially timely as concerns rise over drug abuse and the spread of HIV, particularly impacting the younger population.

To further promote awareness and solidarity, an official launch event is scheduled for March 1, which includes a Peaceful March of Witness through the streets of Suva. The campaign represents a hopeful community initiative aimed at healing and support during a challenging time for many Fijians.
