Residents of Navatusila and Magodro in the highlands of Ba and Navosa are celebrating the successful launch of the Navatusila Grid Extension Project, a $5.4 million initiative that has fulfilled years of hope for reliable electricity in the region. This government-funded project directly impacts 407 households, positively affecting around 2,035 individuals, demonstrating a commitment to inclusive development and equitable access to essential services.
Adi Kaveni Salaivalu, a resident of Nabutautau, expressed the profound change this project has brought to their community. She noted that access to electricity has transformed daily life, stating, “This project has significantly transformed our lives, including those of our families and communities. Previously, the roads were very dark, but this electrification initiative has illuminated our homes and lives.” She highlighted that the availability of electricity not only simplifies household chores, such as washing uniforms for students, but also enhances cooking and baking experiences through the use of electric stoves.
Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau emphasized that the project marks a substantial investment in the region, with $5.4 million allocated for the grid extension and wiring, plus an additional $300,000 dedicated specifically to house wiring to ensure safe and reliable electricity connections. The initiative, which commenced in 2023, is focused on providing consistent power for lighting, household appliances, and income-generating activities, all of which contribute to the overall wellbeing of the community.
This electrification effort symbolizes not just a utility upgrade, but a significant step towards improving the quality of life for those living in the interior and highlands, inspiring hope for further developments in the future.
