Weather Update Alert!

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 5:30 AM on Friday, February 6th, 2026.

Grab your umbrellas and snorkels, because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in full swing for Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and those tiny island pals around them. Also, keep an eye on the Lau, Yasawa, Mamanuca groups, and the Western and Northern sections of Viti Levu (that’s Nadi, Lautoka, Ba through Tavua to Ra-Rakiraki). And just when you thought it was safe to leave your rain gear at home, the alert has now extended to the rest of Fiji.

Why is it so wet, you ask? Well, a rather lazy trough of low pressure has decided to hang out over the Fiji group, bringing it clouds, rain, and possibly a few grumpy thunderclaps. The good news is that this soggy situation is slowly but surely heading southward and should be on its way out by Saturday.

Forecast until midnight tonight for the Fiji group: Expect occasional rain and a few thunderstorms that might show off their power by sending some heavier falls your way. Moderate southeast to northerly winds are expected, and seas are feeling moderate, so no need to practice your Olympic swimming just yet.

Looking ahead to Saturday: It’s more of the same, with occasional rain and a few thunderstorms trying to steal the show. However, rain should ease into showers from the north as the day progresses. Just a heads up—those localized heavy falls may cause flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, so keep your boats handy!

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Count on several rain interruptions and a few thunderous surprises. Temperatures will range from a minimum of 24 to a maximum of 30 degrees.

For Natadradave/Korovou: Hang on to your umbrellas for occasional rain and thunderstorms with some heavy falls involved. Temperature swings from 24 to a maximum of 29 degrees await you.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Same message, different beach! Expect occasional rain and a few storms. Temperature will dance between 24 and 30 degrees.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Again, keep the umbrellas ready with showers and thunderstorms in the mix. Temperatures from 24 to 30 degrees are on the agenda.

For Tavua/Rakiraki: It’s a similar rainy show with occasional thunderstorms. The thermometer will be delighted to fluctuate between 24 and 29 degrees.

For Yasawa/Mamanuca: Keep your rain gear close! Occasional rain and thunderstorms will stay with you too, with temperatures hanging around 24 to 29 degrees.

For Labasa: Rain and a sprinkle of thunderstorms will keep you company. Minimum temperature stays at 24, climbing up to 29 degrees.

For Savusavu: Expect periods of rain and thunderstorms amidst a high of around 28 degrees.

For Nabouwalu: Rain will make its appearance, along with a few thunderclaps. You’ll enjoy temperatures from 24 to 28 degrees.

For Taveuni: Rainy days with occasional thunderous greetings, with the temperature ranging from 24 to 28 degrees.

For Lau and Lomaiviti group: Rain is the guest of honor here too, along with the usual thunderstorm performers.

For Kadavu: Plan for occasional rain and thunderstorms, with a mild temperature range, hitting highs of 31.

For Rotuma: And a big shout-out to Rotuma! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is waving goodbye to dry days. Expect periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms alongside moderate to fresh northwesterly winds causing things to get a bit rough on the seas.

So, as you can see, it’s a wet and wild ride across Fiji! Keep dry as best as possible, and don’t forget to enjoy the joyful chaos the rain brings.
