Fiji Golfers Unite for Spectacular Challenge Trophy Victory!

The Fiji Senior Golfers Association (FSGA) claimed victory in the annual Roger Probert Challenge Trophy, defeating the Fiji Golf Club’s Young Bucks by a score of 315 to 274 points at the Vatuwaqa course in Suva. The tournament, which honors Roger Probert—who founded Ready Gas in Fiji in 1956—attracted 62 golfers, making for a memorable event despite challenging weather conditions prior to the day.

Probert, who was a prominent figure in Fiji’s golfing community and a member of the Lautoka Golf Club, was well-regarded among his peers. His legacy continues to be celebrated through this annual event, which was well supported this year, culminating in a fantastic day of golf filled with camaraderie among participants.

Women’s Golf Fiji president, Susie Yee, expressed her appreciation for the turnout and the excellent weather on the tournament day, especially after a season of adverse conditions. She highlighted the importance of community support in making the competition successful.

In individual performance, Susan Yee topped the Ladies category with a score of 33 points, followed closely by Lyndall Fisher and Kamini Singh. On the men’s side, Nathan Kirk was the standout player, winning with an impressive score of 41 points, while Semiti Raikuna and Russell Gibson took second and third places respectively.

The success of this event reinforces the strength of the golfing community in Fiji, fostering both competition and fellowship among golfers of all ages and skill levels. The positive spirit surrounding the tournament not only honors Roger Probert’s memory but also enhances the local sporting culture, creating anticipation for future competitions.
