Extra Supermarket has been confirmed as the GOLD sponsor for the 2026 Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) Annual Congress, committing $33,750 to support the two-day professional forum scheduled for May 8–9 at the Crowne Plaza in Nadi. The congress, which carries the theme “Charting New Horizons for a Changing World”, will bring together accounting professionals, regulators, policymakers and business leaders to address pressing changes facing the finance sector.

Lailanie Burnes, Extra Supermarket’s chief marketing officer, said the sponsorship reflects the retailer’s commitment to national professional development and sustainable economic growth. “At Extra Supermarket, we believe a strong and resilient economy is built on professional excellence, integrity, and sound financial governance,” Burnes said. “Our support for FICA represents an investment in the people who manage and safeguard the financial foundations of Fiji’s businesses. We are proud to stand alongside the accounting profession as they chart new horizons in a changing world.”

FICA President Sharvek Naidu welcomed the partnership, noting the congress is expected to draw about 300 participants from Fiji and overseas. Delegates will include local and international accounting professionals, policymakers, regulators and business leaders. Key discussion areas slated for the agenda are digital transformation, the use of artificial intelligence in finance, and evolving sustainability standards — topics FICA says are central to preparing the profession for rapid technological and regulatory change.

Organisers highlighted that Extra’s gold-level contribution forms part of the company’s broader corporate social responsibility activities, which already include a major partnership with Fiji Football and a range of community programmes nationwide. Bronze sponsors for the 2026 congress include BSP Life, Marsh and Merchant Finance Ltd, signalling multi-sector industry support for the event.

The sponsorship continues a trend of private-sector backing for national conferences and capacity-building initiatives across Fiji. In recent months, major local companies have been visible as partners for other industry events, underlining the role of corporate funding in sustaining professional development forums that shape policy and industry practice.

The FICA Annual Congress will be held at Crowne Plaza, Nadi, on May 8–9, 2026. Organisers say the event aims to equip attendees with insight and practical guidance on integrating new technologies and sustainability considerations into financial reporting and governance as Fiji navigates an increasingly complex global business environment.
