April 30, 2026 Fiji Forecast: Isolated Afternoon Thunderstorms Over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu Amid Widespread Showers, Southeast Winds and Rough Seas

Scenic lush green landscape in Fiji with mountains and cloudy sky.

A southeasterly flow will keep much of the Fiji group partly cloudy with brief showers in places, while other areas remain mostly fine. Moderate to fresh southeast winds are expected and seas are forecast to be moderate to rough. Isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms are possible, particularly over the interiors of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

Brief showers are most likely over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere conditions should be generally fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers. People in the interior highlands should be aware of the greater potential for isolated thunderstorms.

The outlook for Saturday is for a continuation of cloudy periods with some showers across the same southern and eastern districts — Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby islands, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu. Other districts are expected to remain mostly fine, with only isolated afternoon or evening showers. Thunderstorm risk remains isolated but focused over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

Local conditions and temperatures: Navua, Suva and Nausori will be partly cloudy with brief showers, with lows around 22°C and highs near 31°C (Saturday: cloudy periods with some showers). Natadradave and Korovou are similar, with minima of 22°C and maxima of 31°C. Yasawa and the Mamanuca group are mainly fine, 23–31°C. Sigatoka and the Coral Coast should be mostly fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and possible isolated thunderstorms, 22–31°C. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba will be fine apart from afternoon or evening showers with potential isolated thunderstorms, 22–33°C. Tavua and Rakiraki are expected to be similar, 22–32°C, and Labasa also 22–33°C. Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu will see partly cloudy conditions with brief showers (Saturday: cloudy periods with some showers), generally 22–31°C.

Rotuma will remain under a southeasterly flow with a trough just to the north of the island. Expect cloudy periods with some showers and the chance of isolated thunderstorms, moderate to fresh southeasterly winds, and moderate to rough seas. Temperatures are around 24–32°C, with Saturday’s outlook showing continued cloudy periods and some showers.

Marine and outdoor notes: moderate to rough seas and freshening southeast winds mean small‑craft operators should exercise caution and plan accordingly. Those with outdoor plans in inland areas of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu should be prepared for brief heavy showers or isolated thunderstorms.
