The Nadi weather office has reported that flash floods in parts of Fiji this afternoon are primarily caused by heavy rainfall that coincided with high tide. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service’s special weather bulletin released at 5:00 PM, a flash flood warning remains in effect for all low-lying areas, particularly those prone to flooding, as well as for small streams in the Sigatoka region.

Significant rainfall has been recorded in the Sigatoka area over the past hour, resulting in flooding in various locations, including Sigatoka town and Lawaqa Road. The Fiji Meteorological Service has also extended the flash flood alert to all low-lying areas and smaller streams in regions across Vanua Levu, greater Lami, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, and Naitasiri.

While this situation poses challenges for the affected communities, it’s important for residents to stay informed and take precautions to ensure their safety. This incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of weather patterns and the importance of being prepared for such natural events.

Summary: The recent flash floods in Fiji are attributed to intense rainfall combined with high tides, particularly affecting Sigatoka and other low-lying areas. The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued warnings and alerts for various regions, urging residents to remain vigilant.
