Fiji has initiated voter services at its diplomatic missions abroad in preparation for the upcoming 2026 General Elections. This initiative follows a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aimed at bolstering collaboration to facilitate voter registration and raise electoral awareness among Fijians living overseas.

The enhanced MoU establishes a comprehensive framework that allows Fiji’s diplomatic missions to provide essential voter services, such as facilitating voter registration and distributing information about elections, while also supporting FEO staff working internationally. With over 200,000 Fijians residing abroad, this partnership is crucial to ensuring that they remain involved in the democratic process and can effectively exercise their voting rights.

This move aligns with previous efforts by the FEO to enhance civic engagement among Fijians overseas, as well as similar MoUs established with the Ministry of Employment, which also seeks to improve voter registration and participation for expatriates. The ongoing recognition of the contributions of Fijians abroad not only strengthens the democratic fabric but also reinforces their connection to their homeland.

As the 2026 elections draw near, these initiatives promise a more inclusive representation of Fijians in the voting process, paving the way for increased participation from the overseas community in shaping the future of Fiji’s governance.
