At the CyberCX Excellence Awards, Fiji’s Acting Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Professor Biman Prasad, emphasized that cybersecurity is now a non-negotiable priority for Fiji’s digital transformation. He highlighted that this aspect cannot be relegated to an afterthought but must be an integral part of all digital initiatives to effectively combat cyber threats and maintain trust and resilience.

Professor Prasad celebrated notable milestones in Fiji’s cybersecurity landscape, including the launch of the National Digital Strategy and the establishment of Fiji CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team). The development of the National Cybersecurity and Resilience Strategy and the National Privacy and Personal Data Protection Policy were also underscored as critical steps forward. He also praised CyberCX for its collaborative efforts in regional initiatives, such as the Cyber RAPID program and contributions to shaping Fiji’s Cloud Policy Discussion Paper.

Reflecting on these advancements, Professor Prasad stressed the importance of partnership between the government and private companies like CyberCX. This collaboration, he noted, is pivotal in building a robust security framework that not only protects but also opens up opportunities for Fiji in the digital sphere. This approach is further echoed in past efforts where the nation’s cybersecurity initiatives have been aligned with international standards, including the Budapest Convention, signaling a robust strategy against evolving digital threats.

Fiji’s leadership has consistently stressed the urgency of fortifying cybersecurity measures, especially as the nation experiences rapid digital transformation. The proactive creation and implementation of comprehensive cybersecurity policies signal a promising future for Fiji, not only safeguarding its digital infrastructure but setting an inspiring precedent for regional collaboration within the Pacific on cybersecurity matters.

This continued focus on cybersecurity reflects a forward-looking vision, aiming to ensure a secure digital environment that bolsters trust, protects citizens, and enhances economic opportunities. The strategic moves and regional partnerships outlined by Fiji’s leaders highlight their commitment to becoming a leader in cybersecurity in the Pacific, inspiring neighboring countries to collaborate towards a collective safer digital landscape.
