The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF) recently celebrated its 65th anniversary, a significant milestone marking over six decades of advocacy, representation, and growth. Eldon Eastgate, the current president and 24th leader of the organization, officiated at the event, expressing pride in the meaningful work the federation has accomplished since its establishment in 1960.

Originally founded as the Fiji Employers Consultative Association, the federation was created with the clear objective of giving employers a unified voice, promoting fair industrial relations, and reinforcing the private sector as a crucial driver of Fiji’s economic development. Mr. Eastgate reflected on the remarkable evolution of the FCEF, highlighting its commitment to fostering tripartite labor dialogue in the 1970s and 1980s, expanding training and productivity programs in the 1990s, and leading reforms that culminated in its current name in the 2000s. More recently, the federation has emerged as a leader in advocating for inclusive growth, focusing on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), women, and emerging entrepreneurs.

During his address, Mr. Eastgate acknowledged the invaluable contributions of past presidents, board members, chief executives, and staff, whose dedication has transformed vision into reality. He emphasized the trust member organizations place in the federation and highlighted the essential support from partners, sponsors, and collaborators.

While the celebration honored the achievements of the past, Mr. Eastgate stressed the importance of looking toward the future. He called upon FCEF’s members, ranging from MSMEs to larger corporations, to continue fostering a collaborative relationship with government partners. He urged future leaders to uphold the legacy of the federation with integrity and a forward-looking vision.

In closing, Mr. Eastgate invited all attendees to join in toasting FCEF’s 65 years of dedication to advocacy and growth, looking forward to a prosperous future for the organization, its members, and the broader Fijian economy. This celebration not only honors years of collective effort but also inspires hope for ongoing contributions to Fiji’s development.
