Fiji Airports has officially transitioned to become a Data Provider within the European Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) Database (EAD), marking a significant advancement in its aeronautical information management capabilities. This change, effective from May 15, 2025, emphasizes Fiji’s commitment to modernizing its aviation infrastructure in adherence to international standards.

The EAD, managed by EUROCONTROL, represents the world’s largest real-time aeronautical information management system, supporting safe air traffic management across Europe. The CEO of Fiji Airports, Mesake Nawari, expressed pride in this achievement, highlighting the dedication of the AIS team in elevating Fiji’s role in handling its aeronautical data. This initiative is expected to enhance data accuracy and timeliness, which are vital for safe aircraft operations in the region.

Nawari noted that while this transition was initially projected for 2021, delays due to human resource constraints led to a successful recruitment and training of AIS personnel in 2023, allowing for this critical step to be realized. With specialized officers now managing the International Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) Office in Nadi, the organization is positioned to improve coordination with adjacent Flight Information Regions (FIRs) and enhance regional Air Traffic Management efficiency.

The move to become a data provider also reduces reliance on external agencies and facilitates integration with modern software systems for aeronautical information management, thereby promoting real-time access to validated data and mitigating risks associated with outdated information. Moving forward, Fiji Airports is dedicated to ensuring continuous access to the EAD until it can purchase its own aeronautical interactive database, committing to regular software maintenance and ongoing training for AIS personnel.

These developments reflect a broader commitment by Fiji Airports to modernize its operations and infrastructure, positioning the country as a vital player in the aviation landscape of the Blue Pacific. As Fiji continues to enhance its aviation data management capabilities, it paves the way for a promising future in regional air travel and safety, benefiting both the local economy and the tourism sector.
