As the Fiji Airways men’s national 7s team gears up for the Vancouver 7s next weekend, they are fully focused on enhancing their performance in the HSBC 7s World Series. Approaching the midpoint of the 2024/2025 season, the team has taken time to analyze their performance from the recent tournament in Perth, pinpointing essential areas for improvement such as communication, consistency, and passing accuracy.
Head coach Osea Kolinisau is aware of the significance of each match as the team strives for a strong finish in the series. With only four tournaments remaining, a win in Vancouver could be pivotal in securing their championship aspirations. Kolinisau emphasizes the importance of mastering the basics, particularly passing, as it is crucial for elevating their game. “Top-class players execute the basics at a high level, and that’s what we want to achieve,” he explained.
Winning in Vancouver is not just about the immediate glory; it would provide the team with an advantageous buffer as they move into the final stages of the series. Kolinisau noted, “If we get a win from Vancouver, it gives us a buffer with two more tournaments to go, and I think this is the last stretch.”
The team’s journey in Vancouver will kick off against Uruguay next Saturday, followed by a match against the USA, concluding with a final pool game against Spain on Sunday.
This determined approach, combined with a commitment to improving their core skills, suggests a promising future for Fiji in the series. With the right mindset and execution, they have the potential to achieve significant success in the upcoming tournaments.
