Fiji 7s Coach Prioritizes Team Unity Over Individual Glory Ahead of LA Championship

Fiji 7s Head Coach Osea Kolinisau is prioritizing fitness and team unity over individual standout performances ahead of the upcoming Sevens World Championship in Los Angeles. Kolinisau firmly believes that a player’s skill is irrelevant if they do not possess the physical fitness required to endure the demanding nature of the sport.

“Sevens is about fitness. No matter how skilled or strong you are, if you’re unfit, you’re of no use,” Kolinisau remarked, emphasizing the need for players to be fully prepared to last all 14 minutes of a match.

In addition to physical conditioning, adaptability will be essential for the team, especially in light of potential injuries or changing roles on the field. Kolinisau has reaffirmed that the collective strength of the team is its true x-factor and that individual accolades will take a back seat to forging a cohesive unit.

The LA Sevens tournament is scheduled for May 3-4, and the team is eager to showcase their hard work in an environment focused on resilience and teamwork.

Kolinisau’s approach echoes his ongoing emphasis on mental fitness, communication, and fundamental defensive strategies—critical throughout their training and upcoming competitions, including the Perth 7s earlier this year. His dedication not only fosters a competitive spirit but also inspires young athletes in Fiji, creating a hopeful environment for future successes in rugby. As fans gear up for the action, the promise of a well-prepared team united in their goals serves as an encouraging signal for what lies ahead.
