Fiji Airways men’s 7s captain Jeremaia Matana has issued a strong message to his teammates, emphasizing that wearing the national jersey is a privilege that must be earned rather than taken for granted. He stressed the importance of maintaining consistent performance, discipline, and a positive attitude as essential requirements for representing Fiji on the international stage.
Matana pointed out that with intense competition for spots on the team, every player must be ready to accept the responsibility that comes with wearing the national colors. “I’ve always advised the boys that nobody came with a whale’s tooth to ask you to represent our country — we all raised our hands to be here,” he stated, reinforcing the idea that playing for Fiji is an earned honor.
His comments highlight the team’s commitment to high standards and accountability as they prepare for the upcoming third leg of the HSBC SVNS series, which is set to take place in Singapore starting on the 31st of this month. The men’s team is currently in a competitive position, holding 32 points in the standings, tied with South Africa, who also leads at 32 points.
This emphasis on discipline and hard work reflects a positive and determined mindset within the Fiji 7s camp, as they seek to enhance their performance and uphold the pride of representing their nation on the world stage.
