Naitasiri rugby team managed to defend their title once again by securing a dramatic victory over Lautoka in the Farebrother Trophy challenge, held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. It was an intense match that had fans at the edge of their seats, with Naitasiri clinching the win in the final moments. A last-minute try by center Tevita Sabola, followed by a successful conversion, allowed Naitasiri to emerge victorious with a narrow 41-38 victory. This result marks yet another successful defense of the prestigious trophy by the Naitasiri team.

Head coach Dr. Ilatia Tuisese expressed his relief and happiness for the win, while also acknowledging the areas his team needs to improve upon. Their next challenger will be Vatukoula, where they aim to build on their current success.

The outstanding performance by both teams highlighted the competitive nature of Fijian rugby. Lautoka’s disappointment was palpable, as they sought revenge after losing the trophy to Naitasiri the previous year. Despite a strong performance, the Lautoka team, led by coach Peniona Ranitu, fell short at the last hurdle. Ranitu remains optimistic, urging his players to continue fighting and assuring them that they have much more to look forward to this season.

In other Skipper Cup results, Ba achieved an impressive upset over Nadi with a 31-24 win, Malolo shocked defending champions Nadroga 26-24, Suva triumphed over Tailevu with a 28-24 victory, and Macuata narrowly defeated Vatukoula 29-27.

The high-stakes nature of the Farebrother contests underscores the spirit and passion inherent in Fijian rugby. These contests keep the tradition alive, drawing fans together and celebrating the deep-rooted love for the sport. As the Skipper Cup season continues, the calibre of matches like these promises an exhilarating spectacle for rugby enthusiasts across Fiji.
