The Ministry of Women officially inaugurated the 7th National Women’s Expo at Suva’s Vodafone Arena, emphasizing the creation of opportunities for women in local and global markets. This event aims to provide a platform for women to showcase their products, thus enhancing livelihoods and the overall well-being of their families and communities.

Emily Lalabalavu, the First Lady, officiated the event and underscored the need to dismantle barriers and challenge stereotypes that prevent women and girls from fully participating in educational, work, and decision-making processes. She praised the attendees for their creativity and resilience, especially in light of recent challenges, stating, “Your hard work and dedication make this event special.”

This year’s theme, “Fijian Women at the Heart of Economic Progress,” reflects the mission behind the Expo and the various empowerment initiatives aimed at benefiting women and girls across Fiji. The Expo is a crucial step towards connecting over 300 female artisans to sustainable economic opportunities and will run for three days, concluding this Friday.

Building upon past initiatives, such as the Women’s Expo and mini-craft shows in rural areas, this event continues to support women’s empowerment. Previous events have successfully gathered women from various regions to display their handmade crafts and entrepreneurial skills, showcasing the ability of women to contribute significantly to their communities. Past examples highlighted the vital role of women in facilitating community growth while fostering economic independence through local markets.

Overall, the Expo is not just a showcase of talent but a celebration of the critical role women play in the socio-economic fabric of Fiji, aiming for continued growth and opportunity in the future. These concerts of effort promote a hopeful vision for women’s empowerment in Fiji, fostering a more equitable society where women can thrive both economically and socially.
