Empowering Parents: The Key to Shaping Future Generations

Great Council of Chiefs Chair Ratu Viliame Seruvakula is focusing on children during his visits to rural communities, advocating for the integral role of parents in their upbringing. During his recent trip to Kadavu Island, he emphasized to parents their responsibility in prioritizing their children’s education. Ratu Viliame discussed with local adults the critical importance of shaping their children’s futures and preserving traditional culture amid increasing assimilation pressures within communities.

This emphasis on parental involvement aligns with previous remarks Ratu Viliame made during recent events, such as a passing-out parade at Ratu Sukuna Memorial School. There, he stressed the necessity for parents and guardians to prioritize their children’s needs over personal interests, pointing out the numerous challenges children face today, including threats like sexual violation, drug abuse, and trafficking. He implored parents to refrain from distractions that could hinder their responsibilities, such as excessive socializing or seeking unhealthy stress relief.

Ratu Viliame is set to continue his outreach efforts by visiting the Northern Division later this week, where he will likely reiterate his message of the significant impact that dedicated parenting and community involvement can have on nurturing the next generation. His approach reflects a hopeful vision for the future, where strong, caring families can foster resilient and educated children who are well-prepared to navigate the challenges of society.
