The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, has acknowledged reports regarding students being denied enrollment in schools despite their parents having thoroughly prepared them for the academic year. He expressed concern over the incidents where students were asked to seek out new schools after only a few days of attendance.
In a recent statement, Radrodro reassured parents and guardians whose children have faced enrollment challenges that every child will have the opportunity to continue their education. He emphasized the need for heads of schools (HOS) and principals to show empathy towards the difficulties parents and guardians face in ensuring their children’s education.
The Minister highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to offering professional guidance and resources to help schools efficiently manage their enrollment procedures. He encouraged parents and guardians to reach out to their nearest District Education Office for assistance if they encounter any issues with school enrollment.
Furthermore, Radrodro referred to the 2023 Denarau Declaration, specifically Thematic Area 3, which focuses on Early Childhood Education, Inclusive Education, Access, and Safe and Healthy Schools. He stressed the importance of guaranteeing that all children have the chance to learn, asserting that factors such as academic performance should not solely determine enrollment.
Overall, this proactive approach from the Ministry of Education reflects their dedication to fostering an inclusive educational environment. By ensuring that every child has access to schooling, they are taking significant steps toward a brighter and more equitable future in education.
