The interhouse athletics competition at Dudley High School turned into a thrilling spectacle last Saturday at the HFC National Stadium in Suva, where Cargill House emerged victorious with an impressive tally of 25 gold medals. This triumph narrowly surpassed the efforts of last year’s champions, Cross House, who secured 24 gold medals. Hunt House and Baker House followed closely behind, claiming 23 and 22 golds, respectively, highlighting the fierce competition among the houses.

Iliesa Navitalai, the athletics coach at Dudley High School, expressed his enthusiasm about this year’s events, noting a remarkable increase in competitiveness compared to previous years. “This is my third year at Dudley High School, and this year’s squad is different. The competition is more intense compared to previous years,” Navitalai remarked.

While the school’s boys and girls teams currently hold third place in the zone competition, Navitalai remains hopeful about their future prospects. “We are focusing on middle and long-distance events and trying to improve our field events as well. We’re also switching some athletes to new events to maximize our chances of success,” he explained.

With the Suva Zone 1 and Fiji Finals coming up, Dudley High School is preparing for a promising season ahead. The focus on development and strategic event participation suggests that the athletes are poised to build on their improvements and potentially earn more accolades in the months to come, reflecting a bright outlook for the school’s athletics program.
