The Queen Victoria School Old Boys Association (QVSOB) has received a generous contribution of $4,000 from Pacific Energy for this year’s Druavesi golf tournament. The check was handed over by Amit Maharaj, Pacific Energy’s chief marketing officer, to Alipate Ledua, the president of QVSOB, and Sai Tokalau, the tournament organizer.
This year’s Druavesi tournament, now in its 31st year, is expected to attract between 80 to 200 golfers from across the country, including participants from as far as Labasa. Notably, this year’s competition will welcome not only QVSOB members but also alumni from various schools nationwide, promising an exciting event filled with camaraderie and competition. The Fiji Golf Club will be fielding its own team as well, adding to the tournament’s appeal.
Ledua expressed his appreciation for the sponsorship and highlighted Pacific Energy’s steadfast support since 2011. He noted the growing interest in the Druavesi golf tourney, which is reflected in the increasing number of participants.
Maharaj commented on the inclusion of young golfers in last year’s tournament, a concept he found intriguing and one that will continue this year. “What I noticed last year was that the opportunity was given to the young golfers, the secondary school golfers, and I found that personally to be very unique in its own way,” he remarked.
Tokalau, the tournament organizer, is optimistic that this event will encourage more students to participate and engage in the sport. The one-day tournament is set to take place on Friday at the Fiji Golf Club located in Vatuwaqa, Suva.
This support not only aids in organizing the tournament but also fosters community spirit and promotes the sport of golf to younger generations, ensuring the continued growth and enthusiasm for golf in Fiji.
