IOSEFO Masi is set to make his highly-anticipated return to the starting lineup of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua for their upcoming match against the Western Force. The announcement followed the release of the match-day squad, where Masi will play at outside centre, teaming up with Tuidraki Samusamuvodre in the midfield.
A notable addition to the lineup is Philip Baselala, who is earning his first start in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific after showing promise off the bench in previous outings. His selection illustrates the coaching staff’s trust in the young player’s abilities. Meanwhile, flanker Etonia Waqa also returns to the starting side after being sidelined by injury, providing much-needed energy and agility to the Drua’s forward pack.
Coach Jacko has maintained much of the team that faced off against the Blues in their last match. Samuela Tawake will lead the scrum at tighthead, with season co-captain Tevita Ikanivere returning to captain the side from hooker. The backline sees Baselala starting at halfback and Kemu Valetini in the flyhalf position. The wing positions are filled by Taniela Rakuro and Ponipate Loganimasi, while Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula takes the fullback role.
The bench features a mix of experience and youth, including Mesulame Dolokoto, Peni Ravai, Mesake Doge, Leone Rotuisolia, Kitione Salawa, Leone Nawai, Inia Tabuavou, and Selestino Ravutau, ready to provide impact as needed.
This match marks a critical moment for the Drua. With Masi’s return, alongside the strategic rotations by Coach Jacko, the team aims to elevate their performance and secure a win against a competitive Western Force side. The combination of returning players and new tactical adjustments has instilled a renewed sense of hope and determination among fans and players alike, suggesting a potential upswing in their current season. The match is anticipated to serve as a platform for the Drua to demonstrate their resilience and ambition moving forward.
