Drua’s Coach Calls for Patience as Team Faces Growing Pains

Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has expressed understanding of the disappointment among fans following the team’s 34-5 defeat against the Blues. Acknowledging the challenges his players face in one of rugby’s toughest competitions, Jackson urged supporters to remain patient as the team continues its development. Despite this being the Drua’s third year in the Super Rugby Pacific, Jackson pointed out that they are still in a phase of growth and lacking the depth of experience typical of well-established teams such as the Blues.

Several key Drua players remain young, with Isaiah Ravula-Armstrong, Mesake Vocevoce, and Philip Baselala all in their early 20s. Jackson highlighted the importance of understanding the style of rugby they wish to implement, and he appreciates the effort the players put in as they evolve. “Hopefully they understand the style of rugby we want to play and continue to back our boys. I know how much effort they put in to try and make everyone in this country proud,” he stated.

While he emphasized that inexperience is not an excuse for poor performance, he acknowledged it as a reality of their current situation. Jackson reiterated that Super Rugby is a world-class competition and that achieving success takes time. The Drua’s focus now shifts to their final two matches of the 2025 season, starting with a home game against the Western Force in Lautoka next weekend, followed by a concluding match against the Queensland Reds later in the month.

Reflecting on previous losses, Jackson has previously noted the importance of learning from experiences and maintaining the support of their dedicated fanbase. These challenges reflect a broader theme of resilience within the team. With continued effort and determination, there remains hope for the Drua to finish the season on a positive note, leveraging their momentum in the upcoming matches.

The ongoing journey of the Drua showcases their potential for growth, with fans holding onto optimism that the team will improve and thrive as they navigate the rigors of professional rugby.
