The community members of Delaikuku in the Tailevu region have recently experienced significant improvements in their drinking water access, thanks to their concerted efforts in securing as well as constructing necessary facilities. According to Viliame Vuetibureta, the leader of the local youth, the group has been tirelessly working to provide a sustainable supply of fresh water while also facing numerous challenges during the implementation of this project.
Vuetibureta noted that the youth gathered funds through community events where they served kava, and with the help of donations, they managed to raise approximately $3,000 from three events. Additionally, they received support from the Pacific Island Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (PIANGO), which further contributed $2,000 to their cause.
The local youth, driven by their vision for a better future, committed themselves to collaborating with government departments as they continue to pursue clean drinking water solutions. Their hard work not only aims to improve water accessibility but also to foster community spirit and unity.
Looking ahead, the community plans on maintaining their collaborative efforts with PIANGO to ensure ongoing access to safe drinking water. They will also work on projects concerning waste management and sanitation to further bolster community health.
In a heartfelt message, Vuetibureta encouraged the youth of Fiji and the Delaikuku community to remain proactive in their endeavors and to embrace the skills and resourcefulness necessary to develop and uplift their villages. His belief in the power of youth-led initiatives signifies a promising outlook for sustainable development in the region.
Overall, their efforts underscore the importance of community enthusiasm and engagement, reflecting hope for better living conditions through local initiatives. This positive collaboration not only provides a model for other villages but also strengthens the bonds within the community while addressing pressing needs.
