Water supply has been notably disrupted in parts of the Western Division due to severe flooding triggered by Tropical Cyclone Urmil. The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) reports that heavy rainfall has severely impacted key raw water sources and pumping stations, leading to reduced water production in Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, and Sigatoka.

The flooding has affected major intakes and dams, resulting in high turbidity levels, clogged intake screens, and restricted access to water treatment facilities. As a consequence, several communities, particularly those in elevated or low-pressure regions, are facing intermittent water supply, reduced water pressure, or are experiencing rationing.

Despite these challenges, WAF has confirmed that the majority of major treatment plants remain operational. The authority has mobilized water carting trucks to provide assistance to affected households, businesses, and critical facilities. WAF is monitoring the situation closely and prioritizing essential services to mitigate the impact on the community.

The restoration of water supply in some areas has been hampered by hazardous access conditions and the continuing severe weather. Inspection, cleaning, and repair efforts will commence once conditions allow. WAF emphasizes the importance of using water wisely and encourages customers to store sufficient water for essential needs. The authority also urges the public to report any significant leaks or supply issues.

As the situation evolves, WAF commits to providing continuous updates while working diligently to restore full services to the impacted regions. Amid this adversity, the efforts to ensure access to safe water and the resilience of the community offer a hopeful perspective for recovery in the days ahead.
