As the Super Rugby Pacific season draws nearer, the Crusaders are excited to announce their robust roster for the upcoming 2025 competition. This squad features 38 players, including eight who will be stepping into full-time contracts for the first time, alongside a strong contingent of returning Crusaders and former All Blacks.

Fans and the club are eagerly anticipating a thrilling season at the historic Apollo Projects Stadium, marking the last full season at this venue before transitioning to the new One New Zealand Stadium in the heart of the city. This season is a significant opportunity for supporters to honor the iconic stadium that has witnessed the team secure seven consecutive titles.

Under the strategic guidance of Head Coach Rob Penney, the Crusaders aim to rebound from a challenging 2024 season. Penney expressed his optimism about the squad dynamics, highlighting a blend of experienced players and vibrant young talent.

“We’ve got a great group. All the coaches are looking forward to rolling up our sleeves and preparing as a team at Rugby Park,” remarked Penney. He emphasized the depth and potential within the squad, which he believes can build on their past performances.

In a noteworthy development, Penney confirmed that Scott Barrett will not take on the role of captain in the upcoming season, with more information on his successor expected later.

Among the standout newcomers is seasoned player James O’Connor, known for his nearly two decades of experience in rugby, taking the number 10 position. Another player to watch is Kyle Preston, a key figure in the Wellington Lions’ recent Bunnings Warehouse NPC victory as their starting halfback.

The Crusaders also welcome the impact of 20-year-old Aki Tuivailala, who has performed impressively with Waikato in the NPC and the NZ U20s, and is expected to make significant contributions in the outside backs. Additionally, Xavier Saifoloi joins the loose forwards, ready to team up with established stars like All Black Ethan Blackadder and All Black XV member Christian Lio-Willie.

Several players—Kershawl Sykes-Martin, Antonio Shalfoon, Seb Calder, and Fletcher Anderson—have earned their full-time spots following impressive Super Rugby debuts, underscoring the successful talent development within the Crusaders Academy.

Fans are encouraged to become part of this exciting season, with memberships available and tickets for pre-season matches quickly selling out. This season promises not only thrilling matches but also an opportunity to celebrate a legacy at Apollo Projects Stadium before a new chapter begins at One New Zealand Stadium.

Overall, the Crusaders are positioning themselves for a promising season, blending youth with experience, and maintaining a spirit of resilience and community involvement that is inspiring as they embark on this new journey.
