Community in Mourning: A Family’s Plea for Justice After Tragic Discovery

Praveena Kiran made an emotional plea for justice following the tragic discovery of her 80-year-old mother, Nirmala, found deceased near her canteen in Vunisamaloa, Ba. Nirmala had been living alone and was last seen by her family and neighbors on Sunday. Her body was discovered approximately 200 meters from her shop after local resident Atendra Nair noticed a foul odor while tending to his cows and subsequently alerted Nirmala’s family.

During the search on Monday morning, family members found indications that something was amiss; the electric switchboard was turned off, and the grill door was left ajar. “She was not sickly,” said Pushp Sharma, Nirmala’s son-in-law, noting that despite having three daughters, she preferred to live independently since her husband’s death in 2001. “We want to know whatever happened,” Praveena Kiran stated, grieving the loss and longing for clarity surrounding her mother’s passing.

The ongoing investigation has led authorities to collect DNA samples to establish the circumstances of her death. This situation resonates with recent cases in the community where families have similarly sought justice for their loved ones, highlighting a growing concern about safety and the need for thorough investigations in similar instances.

In a parallel case, the family of Shabreen Shain Ali, a young woman found deceased in Suva, has also been vocal about their desire for justice, reflecting a broader cry for answers within the society. Similarly, the tragic death of Kamal Kavita Kumar from a Ferris wheel accident has left her mother, Sunita Wati, in agony while waiting for accountability. Such incidents underscore the importance of community support and persistent advocacy for justice, as families navigate their grief while demanding answers.

This call for justice serves to remind us of the resilience of families like Ms. Kiran’s as they seek closure and accountability from authorities. The local community’s collective grief and determination signal hope for reforms that could prevent such tragedies in the future.
