Education Minister Aseri Radrodro recently called upon parents and the community to take a proactive role in enhancing the academic achievements of children during the prefects’ induction ceremony at Vatukaloko Secondary and Draunivi Public schools. He emphasized the critical engagement of not only parents but also local leaders and churches in the educational journey of students, underlining that the responsibility for their academic success lies collectively with the community.
During his address, Radrodro noted that parents often overlook their influential role in children’s education, focusing on teachers’ responsibilities instead. He highlighted the importance of parental involvement, encouraging parents to spend quality time with their children, help with their homework, and monitor their academic progress actively. “Your support at home makes a huge difference in their learning journey,” he asserted, advocating for a unified effort to uplift educational outcomes.
In alignment with the government’s focus on educational improvement, Radrodro officially inaugurated a new building at Vatukaloko Secondary School, funded by the Ministry of Education, which cost $49,000. This facility is set to enhance learning conditions for both students and teachers.
Moreover, he acknowledged the newly inducted prefects, urging them to approach their leadership roles with a sense of responsibility and integrity, reminding them that being a leader means setting a positive example for their peers.
Radrodro’s emphasis on collaboration between parents, educators, and the community resonates with previous discussions focused on reversing declining academic performance rates among students in Fiji. Recent initiatives highlighted the need for a concerted effort to address these challenges, and the minister’s call to action signals a hopeful outlook where increased parental engagement could positively impact the educational landscape and promote better student outcomes.
As educational stakeholders work together, there is potential for substantial progress in Fiji’s schools, paving the way toward a brighter future for every child. The concerted efforts could lead to an environment where students thrive not only academically but also personally, supported by an engaged and dedicated community.
