At just 22, she took on the role of Team Leader at the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, where she has spent over a year as the Food & Beverage Venues Manager. With a solid background of more than 11 years in the tourism sector, having also worked at Wyndham Resort Fiji and Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa, Laisave emphasizes that true leadership transcends age and experience.
“I always encourage my team of 54 associates to aim high, reinforcing that there are no age restrictions on growth,” Laisave states, reflecting her belief in hard work and dedication. This philosophy resonates with other female leaders in the hospitality field, exemplified by individuals like Irinieta Naqolo, an Assistant Manager at the Sheraton Fiji Resort, who similarly underscores the importance of support and empowerment among women in the industry.
Support has been crucial in Laisave’s journey, significantly from her husband, who promotes a progressive view on gender roles. “Having a partner who believes in me has boosted my confidence significantly,” she notes, illustrating how impactful support systems can be for women balancing career aspirations and family responsibilities.
Her career began with a part-time role in a restaurant in Australia, where she realized her passion for hospitality. After moving back to Fiji, her determination led her to quickly secure a position at Hilton Fiji Resort, propelling her invitation into the hospitality realm. Laisave draws inspiration from her mother, a single parent who has made significant strides in hotel management, fostering Laisave’s desire to follow in her footsteps.
Despite facing skepticism due to her age and gender, Laisave has consistently turned challenges into motivation.
