A man in his 30s has been charged with computer-related forgery offenses by the Criminal Investigation Department’s Public Sector and Commercial Crime Unit. He is accused of committing these offenses between April and September 2024. The police investigation revealed that while employed at a bank, the man allegedly generated and altered bank statements and a motor vehicle policy to facilitate the approval and disbursement of a loan exceeding $280,000 to five clients.

The charges against the accused include six counts of Computer Related Forgery under Section 9 (1)(a) of the Cyber Crimes Act 2021. He is set to appear before the Nadi Magistrates Court on June 16, 2025, to face these allegations.

This incident underscores significant concerns about digital fraud, particularly in financial transactions. It echoes previous cases in the region, such as a 45-year-old man charged with multiple counts of obtaining financial advantage through deception involving online transactions, and other similar cases where individuals misled victims for financial gain. These charges highlight the ongoing challenges posed by cybercrime and the importance of enhancing consumer awareness to safeguard against such fraudulent activities.

As digital platforms become increasingly intertwined with everyday financial practices, vigilance is crucial to protect oneself from potential scams. Law enforcement’s commitment to addressing these crimes aims to foster a safer environment for consumers.
