A slow-moving trough to the west of the group, together with a moist east to northeast wind flow, will keep much of Fiji under cloud and showers through tomorrow. Frequent brief showers and isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected in several areas, and localised heavy rain may cause flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone locations.
The heaviest and most persistent cloud and showers will affect Suva/Nausori‑Tailevu, Serua/Namosi/Naitasiri/Ra, Cakaudrove and eastern Macuata provinces, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. These districts can expect cloudy periods with brief but potentially intense downpours, particularly in the afternoon or evening. Winds will be moderate from the east to northeast, turning southeast later tonight, and seas around the islands are currently moderate.
Elsewhere along the west and northwest — including Yasawa/Mamanuca, Nadi/Lautoka/Ba, Sigatoka/Coral Coast, Tavua/Rakiraki, Labasa and Nabouwalu — conditions will be partly cloudy with isolated afternoon or evening showers and a risk of thunderstorms with heavy falls. Many centres are forecast to see temperatures near a low of 23°C and a daytime high around 31°C; Nadi may reach about 32°C on Wednesday and Labasa up to about 33°C on Wednesday.
Taveuni, Savusavu and other northern or outer islands will see cloudier conditions with some showers and isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls possible, while Rotuma will have cloudy periods with some showers under a moderate easterly flow and moderate seas. Rotuma’s outlook for Wednesday indicates occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms with slightly higher temperatures.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, the trough’s influence will persist for the same main areas with isolated heavy falls expected again, especially in the afternoon or evening. Elsewhere conditions should be generally fine apart from isolated showers. Winds are expected to strengthen to moderate to fresh east to southeast, and seas are likely to increase to moderate to rough. Residents in low‑lying or flood‑prone areas should be prepared for sudden heavy downpours and possible flash flooding, and small craft operators should take care as seas build.
