The Suva Netball Association has a new leadership team after Alumeci Sachs and her executive committee formally handed over the reins following a two-year term. The association confirmed the change in a statement, thanking the outgoing team for their work and introducing the incoming officers who will steer Suva netball into the next season.
Taking over as president is Koila Kabu, who will be supported by vice-president Josua Qalo, treasurer Hannah Tuikoro and secretary Unaisi B. Tawake. The association described the four new committee members as having “extensive experience in netball on and off the court” and said they will bring “fresh energy and vision” to continue building on the achievements of the previous executive. The outgoing committee served from 2024 to last year.
Suva Netball singled out Sachs for her role in securing key sponsorships during her presidency, including support from major supermarket chain NewWorld. The statement noted that the backer’s increased support under Sachs’ leadership has been an important boost for the association, helping to underpin activities across age groups and competition levels.
Although Sachs has stepped down as Suva president, she remains active in the sport at national level. She has been appointed to the Netball Fiji transition committee, a body established after the unification of 18 affiliated netball associations to oversee the implementation of a new constitution. The association described the transition committee as central to “setting the wheels of change in motion” for netball governance in Fiji.
The handover comes as Suva Netball prepares for an upcoming season that will run across all grades, from primary school through to senior or open level. The new committee will be expected to manage preparations, competitions and development programmes at grassroots and representative levels, maintaining relationships with sponsors and stakeholders secured during the previous term.
The leadership change reflects broader governance shifts in Fijian netball following the recent unification and constitutional reforms overseen by Netball Fiji. With the transition committee now in place and fresh leadership at the Suva association, administrators say the focus will be on consolidating sponsorship gains, ensuring smooth implementation of national reforms at the local level, and delivering competitive and development pathways for players across age groups.
