True Fitness Gym opened its doors at the True Mart complex in Navua on Saturday, with traditional leader Tui Namosi Ratu Suliano Matanitobua as chief guest and Minister for Lands Filimoni Vosarogo among the dignitaries attending the launch. The new facility is the latest project from the Grace Road Group and its opening was promoted as a community-focused investment in health and wellbeing.
Daniel Kim, president of the Grace Road Group, said the gym was established to promote healthier lifestyles and to play a role in tackling the country’s rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). “This facility is an investment in promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing the rise of non-communicable diseases,” Kim told those at the ceremony, framing the venture as part of a broader effort to encourage regular exercise and preventative health measures.
Membership at True Fitness has been set at $150 per month, with a discounted rate of $75 available to Grace Road Group staff. The pricing structure was announced at the opening and is aimed at making regular access to gym facilities feasible for employees while positioning the centre as an option for Navua residents seeking structured fitness options.
The choice of Navua and the True Mart complex places the gym in a commercial hub used by many in the town and surrounding areas, suggesting organizers expect it to serve both local shoppers and workers. The presence of Ratu Suliano and Minister Vosarogo at the opening was highlighted by organisers as a sign of local endorsement from both traditional and government sectors.
Health authorities in Fiji have long identified NCDs—such as diabetes, heart disease and hypertension—as leading challenges, and private-sector initiatives that make exercise facilities more accessible are often presented as complementary to public health campaigns. Grace Road Group’s move follows a trend of businesses engaging in community health initiatives, though organisers did not outline any formal partnership with health services at the launch.
For now, True Fitness will begin operations with memberships on sale and promotional outreach expected in Navua. Organisers said further details on opening hours, classes, and membership terms would be released to the public in the coming days.
