Alitia Bainivalu Appointed as Minister for Fisheries and Forests

Newly appointed Minister for Fisheries and Forests, Alitia Bainivalu, recognizes the high expectations that come with her new role in the Cabinet. Bainivalu’s appointment marks a historic moment as she becomes the first woman to lead the Ministry of Fisheries and Forests. She expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister for trusting her with this important ministerial position.

Bainivalu also conveyed her appreciation to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, for his guidance and leadership over the past 18 months. Additionally, she thanked her predecessor, Kalivati Ravu, for his dedicated service to both the people and stakeholders of the fisheries and forestry sectors.

The Ministry of Fisheries has been allocated an increased budget of $25.3 million, while the Ministry of Forests received a boosted budget of $31.4 million. Bainivalu emphasized her commitment to working closely with stakeholders to advance and develop both the fisheries and forestry industries.
