A funding of $900,000 has been designated for clean and safe drinking water projects in the villages of Niurua and Naqumu, located in Macuata. This announcement was made by Macuata’s provincial administrator, Revoni Rakasa, during a presentation at the Macuata Provincial Council meeting held in Sasa Village on Friday.
Ms. Rakasa highlighted that the government has earmarked a total of $637 million to enhance infrastructure and services in the northern region of Fiji. “The Government is committed to ensuring that the residents of the Northern Division, including Macuata, have access to essential services,” she stated.
The allocated funds will be directed towards vital projects, including the maintenance and improvement of roads, water supply, communication systems, and market access. Ms. Rakasa further pointed out that several projects have already been identified for funding and implementation.
While acknowledging that it may take time for the government to address everyone’s needs, she emphasized that the government’s commitment is evident through its disaster relief efforts last year, which saw over $655 million spent to assist recovery from natural disasters.
This significant investment in essential services reflects the government’s dedication to supporting communities and enhancing their living conditions. It is a hopeful indication that the residents of Niurua and Naqumu will soon see improvements in their access to clean water, alongside other infrastructure developments that promise to uplift their quality of life.
