Local football expert Raymond Stoddart has highlighted the selection of top players from various districts into the Extra Supermarket Bula FC squad as a significant opportunity for young and aspiring footballers. He believes this move could greatly benefit the upcoming domestic competitions.
Stoddart pointed out that the notable senior players, who have excelled in major local tournaments in recent years, will not be representing their district teams this season. Their absence is expected to open up opportunities for younger players to shine and demonstrate their skills on the field.
He acknowledged the common hesitance among coaches to trust inexperienced players but suggested that this season might compel them to rely on emerging talent. “It’s a very big opportunity, and I’m a huge supporter of young talent coming through. I think there’s still a lot of young talent in Fiji, and teams should take advantage of this,” he remarked.
Stoddart is encouraging young footballers to take the initiative, showcase their abilities, and prove they are capable of competing with the nation’s best talents.
Additionally, as local football enthusiasts look forward to future matchups, Rewa FC is set to face Labasa in the 2026 Pillay Garments Champions Vs Champions on February 8 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori, promising an exciting clash in the domestic football calendar.
