Young Weightlifter Makes Waves: Fiji’s Mereia Turaganivalu Wins Bronze!

Mereia Turaganivalu from Team Fiji has achieved a bronze medal in the Women’s 59kg Youth division at the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, which took place at Vodafone Arena in Suva. The 14-year-old student from Gospel High School successfully lifted 53kg in the snatch and 70kg in the clean and jerk, bringing her total to 123kg. Turaganivalu expressed that her motivation stems from her mother and aunt, both of whom were former weightlifters, and she takes pride in continuing her family’s legacy.
