Parents are being urged by the Minister for Education not to send their children to school if they reside in flood-prone areas. The Minister emphasized the importance of monitoring weather conditions, particularly as the region experiences adverse weather.
Mr. Radrodro also mentioned that teachers and school management must make informed decisions regarding whether schools should remain open or close in light of the challenging weather. He encouraged Divisional Education Officers to collaborate with schools to ensure everyone’s safety.
As the new school year kicks off, teachers are reminded to consider the challenges faced by students due to the current weather situation. While a heavy rain warning remains in effect for certain regions of Fiji, it has been lifted for the Mamanuca group and parts of the western half of Viti Levu, including areas such as Coral Coast, Sigatoka, Nadi, Tavua, Beqa, Vatulele, and Kadavu.
This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of community safety and cooperation during adverse weather conditions, as schools play a crucial role in ensuring students’ well-being.
Overall, with effective communication and precautionary measures, the educational authorities and parents can work together to minimize risks for students while navigating these challenging circumstances.
