Residents in specific areas of Labasa are currently facing water shortages. The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has yet to provide a statement regarding the situation. However, they had previously advised customers to stockpile enough water to last at least two to three days due to the critical levels of several water sources in the Northern Division.
The Vunika and Wainikoro water systems are among those affected and are under critical operating conditions, with the possibility of rationing if circumstances do not improve. Furthermore, the Nasalasala system is also nearing critical levels. The authority has indicated that if the situation worsens, water carting assistance may be deployed to support the affected communities.
In response to these disruptions, residents are encouraged to conserve water and prepare for continued challenges. Similar situations have arisen in Fiji’s Central and Eastern Divisions, where heavy rainfall has led to operational complications in water supply systems, resulting in intermittent supply issues for over 300,000 residents.
To address immediate needs, WAF has made its customer service lines available for inquiries and assistance. Community resilience is essential during these trying times, and proactive measures can provide hope for improved water supply stability moving forward. By working together and ensuring proper preparedness, affected residents may navigate these challenges more effectively.
For further assistance, residents can contact WAF at 3346777 or the mobile number 5777, or reach out via email at contact@waf.com.fj.
