The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has officially parted ways with young centre Waqa Nalaga, also known as Epeli Waqaicece. The 21-year-old athlete joined the Drua last year after showcasing his talent with the Fiji U20 team and playing in New Zealand.

Waqa Nalaga is notable for being the younger son of former Flying Fijians wing Kavekini Nalaga and the sibling of former national representative Napolioni Nalaga. Recently, he was among the four centres selected for the upcoming 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season.

The Drua released a brief statement confirming Nalaga’s exit, indicating that they adhered to proper procedures during his release. They emphasized that they would not be providing any further comments regarding this decision.

This move reflects the club’s strategic considerations as they prepare for the new season. While it may be a disappointment for fans and the player, Nalaga’s journey is far from over. With his background and experience, he has the potential to thrive elsewhere in his rugby career.

In the face of this transition, it’s essential to remain optimistic about the future opportunities that may come for Waqa Nalaga and the broader mission of the Fijian Drua as they build their team for success in Super Rugby.
