Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has announced that urgent repair works will take place at the 132kV Nadarivatu Switching Station following the detection of a hot-spot fault. EFL’s Chief Executive Officer, Fatiaki Gibson, confirmed that repair teams reached the site around 1 PM today after floodwaters receded.

To enable safe repairs, EFL will temporarily shut down the 132kV transmission line between the Nadarivatu Switching Station and the Vuda Zone Substation. This outage means that the Western Division will not receive electricity from the Monasavu and Nadarivatu Hydroelectric Schemes during the maintenance period.

The repair work is scheduled to begin at 9 PM tonight and is expected to last until 6 AM Tuesday, taking approximately nine hours, contingent on favorable weather conditions. As a contingency plan, EFL will provide electricity to the Western Division of Viti Levu through its generators located in Vuda, Nadi, Qeleloa, Sigatoka, Rakiraki, Rarawai, Pineapple Corner, and Naikabula, and will also utilize the Nabou and Butoni renewable power stations.

However, EFL has cautioned that the backup generation capacity will not fully meet demand, and as a result, residents can expect temporary power outages in some areas while repairs are underway. Despite this inconvenience, EFL is focused on restoring reliable electricity as soon as possible, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining the infrastructure that supports the community.
