Two immunity witnesses provided testimony in the ongoing trial concerning the seizure of 4.15 tonnes of methamphetamine in Legalega, Nadi. The witnesses included the former girlfriend of one of the accused and the owner of the house where the drugs were allegedly stored.

The ex-girlfriend recounted several visits to the Legalega property, indicating that it was still under construction with building materials scattered around. During these visits, she observed containers wrapped in brown tape. She sought clarification from her partner regarding the contents of these containers, to which he disclosed they contained methamphetamine. The day prior to a police raid, her partner received a phone call from Ratu Osea Levula, one of the accused, informing him of the impending police operation.

The second witness, the property owner, revealed that Sakiusa Tuva, another accused individual, had approached him about renting the unfinished house. Their arrangement stipulated that Tuva would forgo rent, instead committing to completing construction on the property. The witness testified about an incident just before New Year’s, where he and others helped Tuva move what he claimed were containers of “tile glue.” However, during this process, one container was found to be leaking methamphetamine, which Tuva subsequently confirmed.

As the trial continues at the Lautoka High Court, it underscores Fiji’s rigorous approach to combatting drug trafficking, as seen in previous testimonies. Multiple witnesses have emerged, revealing the extensive operations involved in this drug trafficking case, which is considered one of the largest in Fiji’s history.

The involvement of multiple witnesses signifies an important commitment to accountability within the judiciary, contributing to broader efforts aimed at ensuring public safety and combating organized crime. Each step in this legal process renews community hope that effective justice will prevail, leading to safer environments for all residents.
