Two individuals from Qauia in Lami were arraigned in the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday, facing charges related to the murder of Police Constable 8012 Peniasi Racagi. Keni Salawai, 42, and Jope Seniloli, 20, appeared before Senior Magistrate Sufia Hamza.
It is alleged that the two men, along with a third accomplice, played a role in causing injuries to Constable Racagi, which ultimately led to his death between February 21 and 22, 2026. Police prosecutor Sergeant Pritika Prasad indicated that the first phase of disclosures has been provided to the defense.
Due to the nature of the charges being indictable, the case has been shifted to the High Court. The defendants have been advised to submit an alibi notice should they choose to use one in their defense. Currently, both men remain in custody and are expected to make their initial appearance before the High Court in Suva on March 13.
The tragic death of Constable Racagi has sent ripples through the community, highlighting the risks faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty. The judicial process will now seek to ensure justice for the deceased officer and his family.
