Fiji Braces for TC Rae: Safety First as Cyclone Approaches

Tropical Cyclone Rae: A Call to Action for Fijians

Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged residents to follow warnings issued by the National Disaster Management Office and the Fiji Meteorological Service in light of Tropical Cyclone Rae’s approach. Speaking outside Parliament, Rabuka stressed the necessity for citizens to seek higher ground while daylight permits, prioritizing their safety as the cyclone approaches.

Currently, Tropical Cyclone Rae is moving south-southwest towards the Lau Group and is positioned just east of Vanua Levu. The cyclone is expected to strengthen, leading to heavy rain warnings across the entire Fijian archipelago. Rabuka reassured the public that the government is prepared to support communities and agencies as they gear up for the impending storm.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued various alerts, including a hurricane warning for the Moala group, storm warnings for the Lau Group and other eastern islands, and strong wind alerts for parts of Vanua Levu. Residents have been advised to safeguard their properties and stock up on emergency supplies in preparation for possible flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.

This event highlights the critical need for community preparedness. Historical responses to similar weather disturbances demonstrate that collective efforts can significantly lessen the impact of severe storms. As Fijians come together to confront TC Rae, their resilience and solidarity shine through as a symbol of hope.

By following safety guidelines and remaining updated through local channels, residents can effectively navigate this crisis, showcasing the indomitable spirit inherent in communities across Fiji.
